Whooo is OWL?
OWL is our Online Writing Lab, a service of the NCC Writing Center. It is similar to the Writing Center, except that the student and consultant work together online through Skype.
Who can use OWL?
Any student who is taking at least one credit course at NCC.
How much does it cost?
Nothing—it’s free to NCC students!
Who is my consultant?
Consultants are typically English instructors at NCC. They have significant experience in teaching the writing process.
Why would I use OWL?
Consultants can help you with any stage of the writing process—from brainstorming or outlining to drafting or revising. Types of issues on which they can provide assistance include thesis, development, introduction, conclusion, organization, transitions, consistent narration or tone. They can help you with research documentation format. And they can also give you tips on resume writing or college application essay drafting.
Note: OWL is not an editing service.
What courses are eligible for OWL?
Any credit course at NCC! So whether you have a persuasive paper for College Composition, a research paper for Introduction to Psychology, or a technical report for Manufacturing Processes, bring it on!
What do I need for my OWL appointment?
You’ll need your assignment (remember, it can be at any stage of the writing process) and an OWL conference form. You’ll also need to download Skype to your computer. Refer to the "Student Procedure" instructions.
When does OWL operate?
Hours vary from semester to semester, but we generally offer appointments Monday through Friday evenings and Saturday mornings.
Check the OWL Calendar for current dates and times.
How long is my appointment?
Forty-five (45) minutes in length.
Where do I sign up?
See the "Student Procedure" instructions for directions on signing up for an appointment.
