Veterans Benefits

 

Nashua Community College is approved for Veterans Benefits. Individuals who began their service after June 30, 1985, may be eligible for benefits under the Montgomery G I Bill, consult Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA). Veterans and service people who entered the military on or after January 1, 1977, may receive educational assistance under a contributory plan for up to 36 months of full time benefits.

Veterans Administration Vocational Rehabilitation
Veterans who served in the Armed Forces during World War II or thereafter are eligible for vocational rehabilitation under specific conditions. Consult the VA for details.

Counseling
Educational and vocational counseling will be provided by the Veterans Administration upon request.

TUTORIAL ASSISTANCE:
The Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) may provide tutorial assistance if necessary.

ENTITLEMENT, DURATION, AND TIME LIMITS
Those who contributed under Chapter 32, (the post Vietnam Era Veterans' Educational Assistance Program (VIP) during the period of January 1, 1977 to June 30, 1985 must have contributed to the program a minimum of 12 months and completed either 24 continuous months of active duty or the full period for which they were called or ordered to active duty, whichever is less. Those who entered active duty on or after July 1, 1985 (Montgomery GI Bill) must contribute for 12 months and serve a minimum of 24 months of active duty, unless discharged early for medical reasons, hardship, etc. Only those who may be eligible under more than one law have up to 48 months of entitlement.

SURVIVORS AND DEPENDENTS
Generally, survivors of deceased veterans, spouses of living disabled veterans, as well as children of either, between 18 and 26 years old are eligible when the death or permanent and total disability was the result of service in the Armed Forces.

Spouses and children of servicemen or servicewomen, who are in one of the following 3 categories,, are eligible as long as the servicemen or woman has been listed for more than 90 days and remains in one of the following categories:

  1. missing in action;
  2. captured in the line of duty;
  3. forcibly detained or interned in the line of duty by a foreign power.

Also, children under the age of 18 and handicapped children may be eligible for benefits.  Consult the DVA for details on any of its survivors' and dependents' educational benefits.
